Free State Campaign for Endangered Species

A campaign has been launched to save endangered fauna and flora in the Free State and also nationwide. Called the Emoya Save the Species Campaign Free State and based at Emoya Estate outside Bloemfontein, the campaign is each year to focus on a selected endangered species, starting off with the rhino this year.

The official launch of the campaign is to comprise of an event from 20 - 22 September 2013 at Emoya Estate, consisting of a glittering gala event on Friday night with a number of artists and entertainers to perform. 23 Tables for guests of corporates and institutions are available at R 10 000 per table.

On Sunday, 22 September, there will be a large potjiekos competition, fun run, church service and other fun activities. 22 September is celebrated internationally as Rhino Day and the Emoya Save the Species Campaign to the Mark Boucher Rhino Trust Fund.

The campaign is also to establish its own registered trust fund overseen by an independent firm of attorneys and managed by a chartered accountancy.

16 September

  • Environmental educational tours for schools to Emoya Estate and art competitions commence.

Friday 20 September

  • Gala dinner with 23 corporate tables @ R 10 000 per table, with dazzling entertainment by Nianell, Drumzone, Elize Cogle Dance Studio, etc. MC Johrne van Huyssteen (OFM)

Sunday 22 September

  • Potjiekos Competition for businesses and experts - Food for sale to the public
  • SABC Sound Stage with variety of local artists
  • Open air church service led by NG Klipkerk
  • Lots of ourdoor activities, including fun run, etc.

24 - 25 October - Phakisa Raceway, Welkom

  • Information exhibition for Save the Species Free State Campaign at Goldfields Trade Expo at Phakisa Raceway, Welkom.

There are currently about 650 white rhinos and 40 black rhinos in the Free State. This province is the only province in SA where no rhinos have been poached the past two years. The national poaching figure for this year already stands on 587.
