A campaign has been launched to save endangered fauna and flora in the Free State and also nationwide. Called the Emoya Save the Species Campaign Free State and based at Emoya Estate outside Bloemfontein, the campaign is each year to focus on a selected endangered species, starting off with the rhino this year.
The official launch of the campaign is to comprise of an event from 20 - 22 September 2013 at Emoya Estate, consisting of a glittering gala event on Friday night with a number of artists and entertainers to perform. 23 Tables for guests of corporates and institutions are available at R 10 000 per table.
On Sunday, 22 September, there will be a large potjiekos competition, fun run, church service and other fun activities. 22 September is celebrated internationally as Rhino Day and the Emoya Save the Species Campaign to the Mark Boucher Rhino Trust Fund.
The campaign is also to establish its own registered trust fund overseen by an independent firm of attorneys and managed by a chartered accountancy.

There are currently about 650 white rhinos and 40 black rhinos in the Free State. This province is the only province in SA where no rhinos have been poached the past two years. The national poaching figure for this year already stands on 587.
